Background and current state of the subject: Obesity is a chronic disease, considered an important risk factor for the development of chronic diseases that significantly increases the risk of premature death. The prevalence of excess weight (obesity and/or overweight) has almost tripled in the last 25 years, leading to a worsening of the health status of the population and an increase in the use of the services of the public health. The basic treatment of obesity consists in the combination of healthy lifestyles and the importance of this is in maintaining them. Motivation for change is an essential factor in this process. Objectives: The main objective of the present project is to determine the effectiveness of motivational therapy, complementary to the habitual intervention of the clinical practice, in relation to the habitual treatment of the people with obesity and / or overweight. As a specific objective: to describe sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyles and the presence of other risk factors for people with obesity and overweight; analyse the therapeutic adherence and the degree of motivation to lose weight of the intervention group and the control group; study the weight loss of the intervention group in relation to the control group and compare the maintenance of weight loss between the two groups. Methodology: A clinical trial study is proposed, where the study area and population will be the resident population assigned to the basic area of health of Banyoles. The sample will be chosen randomly from the people of both sexes, from 35 to 65 years of age diagnosed with obesity and/or overweight who agree to participate in the project. The main variables that will be studied are: sociodemographic, anthropometric data, vascular risk factors, therapeutic adherence and the degree of motivation. Instruments for data collection will be the direct measurement of anthropometric data, the MMAS-8 therapeutic adherence questionnaire and the TRE-MO-RE test to assess the preparation and motivation for changing lifestyles. During the two years of the study, the control group will perform the usual intervention that is now realized in clinical practice in the follow-up of people with obesity, quarterly visits, a total of 8 visits. In the intervention group, the motivational interview will be applied, complementary to the usual treatment. During the first 6 months the visits will be monthly, and thereafter it will be carried out on a quarterly basis, with a total of 13 visits. The study will be presented at the CEIC of the Hospital Dr. Josep Trueta of Girona and the ethical norms in force will be respected. The data analysis will be carried out through the SPSS computer program | |
