The network of Roman roads in our country was a great system of communications that allowed the inhabitants, travellers, merchants and, in short, any user of the roads, to reach anywhere in the territory. This network worked around a main route formed by the Via Augusta, which crossed the province from north to south. Where the main route did not reach, the secondary roads, also known as secondary roads, did so. These came close to the coast, such as the Camí Vell d’Empúries, but also inland, such as the Roman road of Capsacosta. This network was always guarded and well cared for. It also had strategic stopping points for pedestrians. In this paper, we will focus on the role played by watchtowers, villas and other establishments in terms of control of the road network and territory. Although it is true that we cannot know with certainty, we will try to follow the layout that some of the secondary roads of our province would have had, based mainly on the remains of structures and buildings found |
