Avaluació del grau de coneixement del personal docent sobre primers auxilis en l’àmbit escolar: projecte de recerca

Background: Schools are the second place where children accidents are most likely to happen in Catalonia. From three years old, kids spend an average of 30% of their life time in school centers. Accidents like choking, falls and injuries with sharp objects seems to be tend to take place during physical education or breaks between classes. These situations have to be confronted by kindergarten and primary teachers, professionals who, while they were studying their degree, never were taught first aid. During the last years, different guides and acting protocols to confront school accidents have been conceived. They exist in order to be used as a tool that can be consulted when an emergency situation occurs. Despite them, different studies show that teachers don‟t have enough first aid knowledge. Other countries or autonomous communities of Spain have nurses in their school which are responsible with taking care of these situations and ensuring the physical, mental and social well-being of the school community. This is the reason why is important to know which first aid knowledge the teachers have, since they are the ones who have to do the initial response during an accident. With the results obtained we would be able to know their shortcomings and an educational intervention could be developed to focus on deficit procedures. Objective: To determine the knowledge of Banyoles city schools‟ teaching staff has about how to act during a school accident. Materials and methods: It is a descriptive, cross-sectional and mixed study, as it has a quantitative methodology part and a qualitative part. The population studied are Banyoles school‟s kindergarten and primary teachers. Their first aid knowledge will be evaluated with an ad hoc questionnaire. In order to analyse the quantitative data the SPSS 25.0 program will be used and, for the qualitative data, an analytic process. The results of this study will allow us to know what are the basic knowledge that the teachers of the city of Banyoles have and thus be able to propose an 8 educational intervention focused on the results obtained through the questionnaire in the future
