La Prolongació de la vida: Implicacions ètiques, socials i econòmiques

“Extensió de la vida” és un concepte emprat per alguns científics i transhumanistes d’arreu del món i que fa referència a la prolongació radical de l’esperança de vida humana a partir de diverses metodologies que avui dia es troben en fase de desenvolupament. Un dels principals objectius en la tasca de prolongar la vida és frenar i, eventualment, aturar l’envelliment humà. En el present treball estudiarem aquesta qüestió tenint com a referència el llibre The New Methuselahs: The Ethics of Life Extension (2018) del doctor en filosofia John K. Davis. En aquest text, analitzarem les implicacions filosòfiques, bioètiques i socioeconòmiques que poden sorgir amb l’aparició de la prolongació de la vida. Es presentaran objeccions, possibles avantatges i també alguns reptes crítics els quals l’extensió de la vida hauria d’afrontar. Analitzarem quina és la situació actual de les metodologies que possibilitarien l’emergència de l’extensió de la vida i procurarem extreure una conclusió final respecte de la seva viabilitat pràctica a curt i llarg termini

Life extension is a concept used by some scientists and transhumanists around the world that refers to the radical extension of human life expectancy through various methodologies that are currently being researched and developed. One of the main goals of life extension is to slow down and eventually stop human aging. In the present article we will study this issue having as a reference the book The New Methuselahs: The Ethics of Life Extension (2018) by Ph. D. John K. Davis. In this text, we will analyze the philosophical, bioethical, and socioeconomic implications that may arise with the emergence of life extension. Objections, possible advantages and also some critical challenges that life extension should face will also be discussed. We will present the current situation of the methodologies that would make possible the emergence of the extension of life and we will try to draw a final conclusion regarding its practical viability in the short and long term
