Empirical study of freudian theory of psychosexual development: the oral and anal stage

A mediados de siglo XX se realizaron las principales investigaciones en torno al Modelo Psicosexual Freudiano de la Personalidad, no obstante, gran parte de estas presentaban errores metodológicos. El presente estudio tiene como objetivo corregir dichas fallas para así volver a verificar las etapas psicosexuales (oral y anal), como también introducir nuevas variables psicobiológicas que nos ayuden a comprender los procesos subyacentes de la fijación. Para lograr dicho objetivo, se han creado y validado dos cuestionarios para verificar el carácter psicosexual en la adultez (ANL y ORP), un cuestionario sobre los hábitos orales/anales (FIXATIONS) y un inventario de experiencias pregenitales (IEPG) de 0 a 6 años, que pretende medir las variables etiológicas psicosexuales, temperamento, estilo parental y rasgos del cuidador. Un total de 410 adultos (M= 24,16; DE= 6,21) contestaron los cuestionarios ANL, ORP, EPQ-RA, TCI-67, ANPS, PDQ+4, CEPER III, SA-45 y 240 madres (M= 52,15; DE= 5,75) de los participantes contestaron el IEPG. Los resultados hallados indican que todos los cuestionarios e inventarios creados y utilizados son válidos y fiables para verificar el modelo psicosexual. El análisis de las etapas confirmaría la relación y predicción entre la etiología psicoanalítica (lactancia, entrenamiento en el baño, experiencias orales, etc.) y el carácter derivado de estas, tanto en la infancia como en la adultez, al igual que gran parte de la psicopatología asociada. Las dimensiones de intensidad/actividad, reactividad, búsqueda de la novedad, dependencia a la recompensa y el sistema primario SEEKING (BÚSQUEDA) desempeñarían un papel fundamental en el carácter psicosexual, el erotismo oral/anal y el principio de placer

In the mid-twentieth century, the main research on the Freudian Psychosexual Model of Personality was carried out, but much of it was methodologically flawed. The present study aims to correct these flaws to re-verify the psychosexual stages (oral and anal), as well as to introduce new psychobiological variables that help us to understand the underlying processes of fixation. To achieve this objective, two questionnaires were created and validated to verify psychosexual character in adulthood (ANL and ORP), a questionnaire on oral/anal habits (FIXATIONS) and an inventory of pregenital experiences (IEPG) from 0 to 6 years of age, which aims to measure psychosexual etiological variables, temperament, parental style, and caregiver traits. A total of 410 adults (M= 24.16; SD= 6.21) answered the ANL, ORP, EPQ-RA, TCI-67, ANPS, PDQ+4, CEPER III, SA-45 questionnaires and 240 mothers (M= 52.15; SD= 5.75) of the participants answered the IEPG. The results found indicate that all the questionnaires and inventories created and used are valid and reliable to verify the psychosexual model. The analysis of the stages would confirm the relationship and prediction between the psychoanalytic etiology (breastfeeding, toilet training, oral experiences, etc.) and the character derived from these, in both childhood and adulthood, as well as much of the associated psychopathology. The dimensions of intensity/activity, reactivity, novelty seeking, reward dependence and the primary SEEKING system would play a fundamental role in psychosexual character, oral/anal eroticism, and the pleasure principle
