So far, 3D printing has been done mostly with polymeric materials, especially in the FDM technique as it is based on the construction by deposition of the molten filament. It’s a very technical one recurrent and despite the good results obtained in the Process, Product, and Engineering Engineering Research Group Production (GREP), we want to go one step further and we want to enlarge the diversity of materials with which we are capable of 3D printing. Since we want to continue with the line of medical devices, we have chosen one biocompatible and biodegradable material inside the human body, silk fibroin. Therefore, the aim of the work will be to optimize the synthesis protocol of a biotin formed from Bombyx mori silkworm cocoons. The scope of the work frames the optimization of the GREP’s current extrusion system. In addition, research, experimentation and determining the printing process parameters needed to be able to print and obtain biotinta in the future an impression as accurate as possible of cardiovascular stents. Finally, it has been studied the effect of different post-treatment processes on the mechanical properties of the material through of tensile tests
