Actualment el sector de la construcció està avançant cap al modelatge BIM. El BIM (Building Information Modeling) és una filosofia de treball que pretén centralitzar en un sol model 3D tota la feina referent a la modelització i construcció d’estructures, que fins ara s’ha fet de manera coordinativa entre diferents actors, mitjançant plànols 2D. Aplicant aquesta tecnologia s’aconsegueix una reducció de costos i de temps, principalment millorant la detecció d’errors quan el seu cost encara és mínim. També afavoreix un augment de la productivitat, eficiència i rendiment del sector. El concepte principal que defineix el BIM és el fet de “Modelar amb Informació”. A més, existeix la modalitat de disseny paramètric. Mitjançant el programari adequat es pot crear un algoritme que permet modelar una estructura de manera parametritzada. D’aquesta manera, introduint distàncies, dimensions o propietats dels elements es genera un model 3D automàticament. Aquesta metodologia és una manera molt ràpida de modelar una estructura adaptada a cada situació partint d’un estàndard generat a través d’un treball previ de creació de l’algoritme
