L’impacte del paper dels pares i mares en el procés de transició a la vida adulta dels seus fills i filles amb discapacitat intel·lectual

Els joves amb discapacitat intel·lectual es troben amb barreres que els poden dificultar el seu procés de transició a la vida adulta. A través d’aquest estudi, es vol conèixer l’experiència d’alguns joves amb discapacitat intel·lectual durant el seu procés de transició a la vida adulta i quin impacte hi ha tingut el paper dels seus pares i mares. També es vol conèixer algunes actituds que poden tenir els pares vers el seu fill/a amb discapacitat intel·lectual durant aquest procés de transició, i quin treball conjunt fan els professionals dels serveis amb les famílies respecte a aquesta qüestió. S’han pogut assolir els objectius de l’estudi i s’han pogut conèixer les opinions dels participants mitjançant entrevistes semi-estructurades a joves amb discapacitat intel·lectual i als seus educadors i educadores socials dels serveis on participen. Una de les conclusions principals de l’estudi és que el paper dels pares i mares en el procés de transició a la vida adulta dels seus fills/es amb discapacitat intel·lectual és rellevant. Depèn quines siguin les actituds vers el seu fill/a amb discapacitat intel·lectual, tindrà un impacte positiu o negatiu sobre el jove i, per tant, poden facilitar-li o bé dificultar-li aquest procés de transició

Young people with intellectual disabilities face barriers than can hinder their transition to adulthood. Through this study, the aim is learning about the experience of some young people with intellectual disabilities during the transition to adulthood and the impact of the role of their parents. Besides, it is also interesting to know some of the attitudes that parents may have towards their son or daughter with intellectual disabilities during this transition process, and how the professionals of the services work together with families on this issue. The objectives of the study have been accomplished and the opinions of the participants have been known through semi-structured interviews to young people with intellectual disabilities and to their social educators of the services these young people take part of. One of the main conclusions of the study is that the role of parents in the transition to adulthood of their children with intellectual disabilities is important. Depending on their attitudes towards their child with an intellectual disability, it will have a positive or negative impact on the young person and, therefore, can facilitate or hinder this transition
