Automation has been and continues to be one of the great discoveries in history. Like many others, it is developed to satisfy a need that man has to improve a certain activity. In other words, it is the action of converting certain manual movements, made by a person, to automatic, made by a machine. So, it is a set of physical elements controlled and supervised by several computer programs, each of which performs a well-differentiated function. This set of technological resources are responsible for effective control of the process where they are integrated. Apart from making a large part of the work easier, automatic processes have helped form efficient production environments, that is, increasing productivity to meet a demand with a reduced time

L’automatització ha estat i segueix sent un dels grans descobriments de la història. Com molts altres, es desenvolupa per satisfer una necessitat que té l’home per millorar una certa activitat. És a dir, és l’acció de convertir determinats moviments manuals, fets per una persona, a automàtics, realitzats per una màquina. Així doncs, es tracta d’un conjunt d’elements físics controlats i supervisats per diversos programes informàtics, cadascun dels quals executa una funció ben diferenciada. Aquest conjunt de recursos tecnològics són els encarregats de realitzar un control efectiu del procés on es troben integrats. A part de facilitar una gran part de la feina, els processos automàtics han contribuït a formar entorns de producció eficients, és a dir, augmentar la productivitat per cobrir una demanda amb un temps reduït
