Durant molts anys s’han utilitzat diferents classes de vehicles per tal de superar fenòmens naturals, en aquest cas la neu. Les alternatives més afectives fins avui dia són esquís i cadenes de tracció. En el perfil dels esquís ens permet una flotabilitat i agilitat sobre el mateix terreny, i per altra banda les cadenes ens ajuden en el concepte de tracció alhora del moviment i la potència transmesa al terreny. En el cas de les motos de neu convencionals, representa un model de vehicle còmode i de grans dimensions, sigui pel transport d’ocupants o trajecte a realitzar. Les mancances més elementals són el pes i la seva gran envergadura. Envers la maniobrabilitat, no és un vehicle molt àgil i dèbil de portar, el pilot ha d’exercir grans forces per tal de canviar trajectòries i mantenir-se estable per evitar una possible bolcada
