El bàsquet arriba a Boulembou

My research work has consisted in carrying out a study on introducing basketball at a rural Senegalese village called Boulembou, where an NGO has been working for more than thirteen years. This work has allowed me to be part of this association, to see how it works and I have also been able to do my own research project. I chose this subject because my mother had been involved in this NGO for years and I had always wanted to accompany her on one of her very special trips to this corner of the world. But I wanted this experience to be really special, so I wanted to bring something new to the village through the NGO, and it ended up bringing more to me than I thought it would. My project consisted of introducing a variant of basketball to the primary school pupils, as they did not know any other sport apart from football. With the help of a physical education teacher who had already been at Boulembou, we thought it would be a good idea to teach the sport I love to boys and girls who don’t have the same resources and haven’t been lucky enough to know nor to practice it. And so we did, with the support of other volunteers from the NGO I introduced basketball at the Boulembou school through different sessions, also training the physical education teacher, so there could be a continuity with this actively along the academic course. The results of the sessions carried out during the past months, since the time I was there, have been very satisfactory, indeed better than expected. With great participation and willingness to learn on the part of the pupils. There has been a clear improvement in all the specific aspects of basketball and a very good team spirit when it comes to playing as a team

El meu treball de recerca ha consistit en dur a terme un estudi sobre la introducció del bàsquet en un poble rural senegalès anomenat Boulembou, on una ONG hi treballa des de fa més de tretze anys. Aquest treball m’ha permès formar part d’aquesta associació, veure com funciona i també he pogut fer el meu propi projecte de recerca. Vaig triar aquest tema perquè la meva mare havia estat involucrada en aquesta ONG durant anys i sempre havia volgut acompanyar-la en un dels seus viatges tan especials a aquest racó del món. Però volia que aquesta experiència fos realment especial, així que volia aportar alguna cosa nova al poble a través de l’ONG, i va acabar aportant-me més del que pensava. El meu projecte consistia en introduir una variant del bàsquet als alumnes de primària, ja que no coneixien cap altre esport a part del futbol. Amb l’ajuda d’un professor d’educació física que ja havia estat a Boulembou, vam pensar que seria una bona idea ensenyar l’esport que m’encanta a nens i nenes que no tenen els mateixos recursos i no han tingut la sort de conèixer-lo ni practicar-lo. I així ho vam fer, amb el suport d’altres voluntaris de l’ONG. Vaig introduir el bàsquet a l’escola Boulembou a través de diferents sessions, formant també el professor d’educació física, perquè hi pogués haver una continuïtat activa al llarg del curs acadèmic. Els resultats de les sessions realitzades durant els darrers mesos, des que hi vaig ser, han estat molt satisfactoris, de fet millors del que s’esperava. Amb una gran participació i ganes d’ aprendre per part dels alumnes. Hi ha hagut una clara millora en tots els aspectes específics del bàsquet i un molt bon esperit d’equip a l’hora de jugar en equip
