Efectividad de una formación para enfermería en cura de heridas crónicas, basada en el acrónimo DOMINATE. Proyecto de investigación

Introduction: The care of chronic wounds presents a significant challenge within the nursing field. It is essential to ensure nurses possess the necessary skills to effectively manage chronic wound treatment. This study aims to evaluate and provide evidence, through a pre- and post- assessment, of how ongoing and specialized training enhances nursing staff’s knowledge and attitudes towards chronic wound management. It seeks to demonstrate that continuous training for nurses in chronic wound care not only benefits patients but also reduces healthcare costs and establishes nursing professionals as key members of the healthcare team. Objective: To assess the effectiveness of a training program, based on the DOMINATE acronym, focusing on local treatment of chronic wounds, on the knowledge levels of nursing staff working in the vascular unit at Josep Trueta University Hospital. Material and Methods: The study population includes all nurses working in the vascular unit of the Josep Trueta University Hospital, including both permanent and rotating staff, totaling 20 professionals. This is a quasi-experimental study featuring pre- and post- program assessments. The nursing staff’s knowledge will be evaluated before and after the training intervention, as well as their confidence and assurance in managing chronic wounds. The training will be delivered in four sessions, each lasting two hours and fif-teen minutes. The sessions will provide a structured approach to the compre-hensive assessment of chronic wounds, covering key concepts such as wound classification, types of dressings, debridement techniques, and other essential care practices. The DOMINATE acronym will be used as a guiding framework to support a holistic approach to chronic wound assessment and treatment
