Conv-ivint : una nova manera d’envellir

El Convent de les Caputxines de Girona, fundat l’any 1600 i ocupat per les monges caputxines des de 1616 fins al 2017, constitueix un element patrimonial de gran rellevància dins el Barri Vell. La seva arquitectura, d’estil auster i funcional propi de l’orde, es caracteritza per murs de pedra, un claustre central i una església de caràcter solemne amb elements barrocs. Al llarg de gairebé tres segles, les religioses van tenir un paper actiu en la vida social i cultural del nucli antic, contribuint a l’educació, l’assistència i la cohesió comunitària. Amb l’abandonament del convent a causa de la manca de vocacions i l’envelliment de la comunitat, l’edifici ha entrat en un estat de degradació que exigeix una rehabilitació urgent. El projecte de restauració proposat té un doble objectiu: preservar el patrimoni arquitectònic i donar resposta a les necessitats socials actuals, especialment la manca d’habitatges i serveis adaptats per a la gent gran. En aquest sentit, la iniciativa s’emmarca en un context de creixent envelliment poblacional i saturació de les infraestructures geriàtriques existents. La proposta contempla la transformació del convent en un espai residencial i comunitari, amb habitatges adaptats, serveis assistencials, àrees de convivència i espais intergeneracionals oberts a tota la comunitat. Paral·lelament, el projecte inclou intervencions arquitectòniques que milloren l’accessibilitat, la ventilació, la il·luminació i la connexió amb l’entorn urbà, tot respectant el valor històric de l’edifici. En definitiva, la rehabilitació del Convent de les Caputxines aspira a convertir un patrimoni en risc en un centre vibrant, inclusiu i socialment útil, consolidant-lo com a símbol de regeneració urbana, cohesió comunitària i preservació cultural a la ciutat de Girona.

The Convent of the Capuchin Nuns of Girona, founded in 1600 and occupied by the community from 1616 until 2017, is a significant heritage landmark within the city’s Old Quarter. Its architecture, marked by the austere and functional style characteristic of the Capuchin order, features stone walls, a central cloister, and a solemn church with Baroque elements. For nearly three centuries, the nuns played an active role in the social and cultural life of the neighborhood, contributing to education, social assistance, and community cohesion. Following the convent’s abandonment due to the decline in vocations and the aging of the religious community, the building has fallen into deterioration, requiring urgent restoration. The proposed rehabilitation project pursues a dual objective: preserving the site’s architectural heritage while responding to contemporary social needs, particularly the shortage of housing and adapted facilities for the elderly. This initiative is framed within a broader context of demographic aging and the saturation of existing geriatric infrastructures. The project envisions the transformation of the convent into a residential and community space, providing adapted housing, support services, communal areas, and intergenerational facilities accessible to the wider community. At the architectural level, interventions aim to enhance accessibility, ventilation, lighting, and integration with the urban environment, while respecting the historical value of the monument. Ultimately, the rehabilitation of the Convent of the Capuchin Nuns seeks to transform a vulnerable heritage site into a vibrant, inclusive, and socially meaningful space, consolidating its role as a symbol of urban regeneration, community cohesion, and cultural preservation in the city of Girona.
