Abstract:	The Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat) is working on producing a territorial statistical record on the basis of administrative and statistical sources, in accordance with the European Statistics Code of Practice. In this context, the assignation of coordinates to the microdata from the statistical and administrative graphic, econòmic and social areas. This communication describes the diferent alternatives and the results obtained by using the geocodification service of the Cartographic Institute of Catalonia (ICC) to georeferencing the population of Catalonia as the first step towards the systematic georeferencing of the microdata. Finally, it describes the methods used for imputin positions and some cases where the georeferenced populatio has been used
