In this article an approach is made to the benefits or learning that volunteers who participate in social mentoring projects extract. These projects usually have a greater need to express their impact on the target population that participates in it. But on the other hand, there are volunteers who extract something from joining these projects. Given the voluntary participation in voluntary projects for a high number of young people, is considered of special interest to deepen in those advantages that extract those that participate in this type of initiatives. Some of the young university students participating in the Projecte Rossinyol of Tarragona carried out by the Associació Quilòmetre Zero, mention a series of competences or benefits received. Therefore, through this article we can understand with greater specificity all these contributions that are derived from the participation as volunteer. Thanks to the learning methodology of the Learning Service, it is possible to categorize a whole series of competences that are linked to this pedagogy and that, moreover, these volunteers identify. Finally, there are some differences regarding the items contemplated for the evaluation of the Projecte Rossinyol of Tarragona as a benefit for the mentors involved
