Introduction: Premature birth and the hospitalization of the baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is an event with a great psychological impact due to the unexpected situation. Therefore, Cures Focused on Development -CCD- are implanted, focusing on the baby and the family, by highly qualified nurses. Objective: To investigate the psychological impact that parents of premature children hospitalized in the NICU have, and the experience with nursing professionals. Methodology: Qualitative phenomenological study. Data collection is done during the month of February 2016; through deep semi-structured interviews to mothers who have had a premature child in the Neonatal Care Unit of University Hospital Josep Trueta in Girona. The selection of the sample has been carried out for convenience and involves three mothers. Ethical considerations: We always ensure the confidentiality and anonymity of the three interviewed persons, in order to conduct the study appropriately. Data analysis: We performed an analysis of speech transcription, coding and categorization, based on the information obtained from the interviews. Results: We interviewed three mothers. The results are that the unexpected new experience triggers different emotions depending on the stage they happen in, causing physical and mental stress. The support is important, and part of it is the nursing staff that implements the CCD. Conclusions: This experience causes a great psychological impact on parents; especially on the mother, who needs great support to make a healthy confrontation. The nursing staff is a key element in this whole experience, because they are responsible for the care of the baby and the parents. Thus, nursing establishes a good relationship with parents and it is perceived in a very satisfactory way
