Dinàmiques reproductives d’una espècie invasora: estudi de Trachemys scripta a Catalunya

This study investigates the reproductive biology of the invasive species Trachemys scripta in the Baix Ter, a Mediterranean region characterized by strong seasonal variation. A total of 92 adult females were captured and examined, yielding detailed biometric data, ovarian activity profiles, oocyte number and maturity, and morphological features of the oviductal eggs. Results reveal high intraindividual variability in reproductive parameters, indicating remarkable reproductive plasticity. Although a positive correlation was observed between body size and oocyte count, it is not sufficiently strong to be considered definitive. Two reproductive phenotypes were identified, based on body size and reproductive performance. Ovarian maturation was clearly linked to seasonal temperature changes, with a decrease in mature oocytes as the reproductive season progressed. Together, these findings underscore the adaptive reproductive capacity of T. scripta, which likely contributes to its success as an invasive species
